MONTERR

Monterr is a biomaterials design and research laboratory based in Mexico City, founded by Federico Herrera and María Monteys, dedicated to developing sustainable material systems through mycelium, biological fabrication and regenerative design.

Operating at the intersection of biology, material innovation and architecture, Monterr explores compostable alternatives to plastic, polystyrene and industrial agglomerates through biologically grown materials for packaging, interiors, objects and spatial applications.

By combining material experimentation, design research and agricultural waste streams, our team develops regenerative materials that challenge traditional manufacturing systems and explore the future of sustainable fabrication.

“We are passionate about harnessing the unique properties of natural and fungi-based materials to create functional and aesthetically compelling objects, spaces, and structures.”
