About Monterr Lab

Monterr Lab is a biomaterials research and development laboratory based in Mexico City, founded by Federico Herrera and María Monteys. We specialize in custom mycelium packaging and biofabricated material applications designed as alternatives to expanded polystyrene, synthetic foams and other petroleum-based materials.

Working at the intersection of biology, industrial design and material innovation, we transform mycelium and agricultural by-products into protective packaging, objects, interior elements and architectural applications.

Through material research, mold development, prototyping and controlled biological fabrication, our team creates solutions tailored to the functional and aesthetic requirements of each project—exploring how living systems can shape more circular approaches to design and manufacturing.
